EMPTY PALMS
Every syllable forced through
my tightened lips,
Like the words of an apology
of a young scolded
child.
With my hands dangling at my side
reaching for something to
cling to,
they would find nothing-
only emptiness where you
once were.
I needed to feel your warmth,
and know that you still
cared-
The same way you did
for so many years.
I wanted to wake in your arms,
just one more morning
and see the sunshine before
it ever rose.
I long to look into your eyes
and travel the pathway
to our special place-
That place where only
you and I existed.
but instead-
I stand here with
empty palms,
and a voiceless soul-
searching for the
words-
goodbye.
