He Wore a Crown
................................................................................................................... |
"It has began" and his
Mother wept,
lash after lash, bruise upon bruise,
through the cobblestone streets,
tongues carried the news.
Pilate questioned his
guilt,
"Punish him, set him free"
"Crucify him" rang through the crowds,
the Mesiah he claims; it's blasphemy.
Visions foretold, limbs
washed clean,
eat of this bread, a part of me.
Drink of my wine, blood of this lamb,
tomorrow I'll die, sacrificially.
Satan hovered, jealousy
abounds,
sent his serpent for dirty deeds,
King Herrod spoke,
with personal greed.
Peter denied one times
three,
fear of torture, fear of truth,
Judas betrayed him, sold him out,
laced with guilt, now swings aloof.
Chained to the post,in
puddles of our sins,
Mary wiped them clean,
burying her face within.
She bowed in grief,
she knew of his plight,
Jesus of Nazareth,
Son of light.
Crowned with thorns, he
carried his cross,
laden beneath our burdens, he fell.
An onlooker pleaded, "Let him be,"
"Then you help him," they wailed.
I nailed, you nailed, they
nailed-
each pounding blow he cried.
"Father forgive them," he said aloud,
as a soldier, pierced his bleeding side.
His Father's tear fell
from the heavens,
with it came darkened skies and mighty
winds.
The angels sang, as they welcomed His Son,
for the Savior had died for our sins.
